Excellent article, and it’s true that humans are a vicious, greedy, warlike lot. I would argue though that we want to do better. Look at the ‘Long Peace’ after the creation of the UN, and new ways of thinking about wellbeing and sustainability. There is hope for us yet!

Thanks so much for reading it! We are certainly in a different place now then when the UN was formed, but history does rhyme, as they say. And war being fought with AI and machines certainly puts a different spin on things. Still, I think the impulses and human failings that are at play in the battles of today haven't changed much from the Bronze Age. And that it grounding in a way, though also pretty sad...

Maybe with the human failings (and good intentions) being basically the same, we could come up with a real solution using the new science and knowledge available to us. I’m not sure about that though!

Time will tell. It doesn’t help matters that our world leaders seem to be cut from the same cloth as the guys who wrote about their conquests on clay tablets.
